Police were searching for two suspects yesterday in a shooting at a South Richmond apartment complex.

Officers were called at 5:58 a.m. after a report of a man shot in the 1700 block of Clarkson Road. Officers found a Hispanic male, who had been shot in the lower back and the cheek, in a breezeway in the Maple Grove section of the Communities at Southwood.

The man was transported to VCU Medical Center, where he underwent surgery.

Police called for a K-9 unit to help them search for the suspects.

A Spanish-speaking officer was brought in to join the investigation as police interviewed neighbors in the community, where many of the residents do not speak English.

Police tape was used to seal off the crime scene, a large, four-sided structure that has entrances on each side.
