The Lord has some strange ways of calling on people, says the Rev. Phillip R. Glick. "This time, the call is coming from God through Uncle Sam," Glick said yesterday, a few minutes before his final service as rector of St. David's Episcopal Church in Chesterfield County.

Liberty University is moving ahead with a series of campus improvements, including preparations for a new artificial ski slope. Logging began late last month for the Liberty Mountain Snowflex Center. The year-round ski facility, slated to cover almost an acre of Candlers Mountain, is being made with the synthetic material Snowflex.

The dialogue began slowly. Five members of the gay activist group Soulforce held hands and stood to face about 50 Liberty University students behind the school's DeMoss Hall. They had just returned from donating five gay-affirming Christian books to the school's library, and Caitlin MacIntyre invited onlookers to join them in singing "Amazing Grace."

Through Sunday, a tour of a life-size reproduction of a sanctuary built during the time of Moses is not only possible, but it can be done in about an hour. On display at Courthouse Road Seventh-day Adventist Church off Midlothian Turnpike, "Messiah's Mansion" is a traveling exhibit of a sanctuary built in the wilderness 3,600 years ago.
